Event overview:

The move into management is a big step for most people. Many people are promoted to a management role because they are good at their existing job or have a number of years’ experience working in the role, however, this does not automatically mean they will be a good manager. People are often expected to step up to a management position with little or no management training or coaching and are expected to ‘hit the ground running’ with no handover or transition period. Some managers are asked to take responsibility for a new team, however, many are asked to manage their existing colleagues; which can bring its own challenges. Often new managers have to learn from their mistakes and rely on their natural instincts; and many carry out their new role with amazing competence. A high proportion of new managers do, however, suffer anxiety and disillusionment in the first few months in their new role, due to lack of formal management training and support, and consider leaving the organisation.

This half-day introduction to management training course looks at the essential skills required to lead and manage a team. We cover topics such as management styles, emotional intelligence, motivation, influencing skills, transitioning from team member to manager, values, delegation, basic employment rights, performance management, giving feedback, time management, effective meetings, handling challenging conversations and leadership skills.

People who will benefit from this course are newly appointed line managers, team leaders or junior managers or those in existing management positions looking to build their confidence.
